Marvin Solberg

Marvin Solberg, 87, of Floyd, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021 at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage with his loving family by his side.

A funeral service for Marvin Solberg will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Charles City with Pastor Norman Bauer officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Rock Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Rudd.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City and continue one hour before the start of the service at the church on Friday.

Marvin Donald Solberg, the son of Martin and Betsy (Olsen) Solberg, was born on Aug. 20, 1934 in rural Mitchell County, Iowa. He graduated from Colwell High School in 1953. On April 6, 1963, he was united in marriage to Lucille Kofoot at First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. To this union, the couple had four children: Cynthia, Brian, Craig, and Karen.

After high school, Marvin picked up milk from farms and delivered to numerous creameries in Floyd and Mitchell County until 1965. He then owned and operated a portable feed mill and also farmed. In 1985, he started farming full time and continued until the end. Marvin always had a special place in his heart for the family dog that would help him on the farm. Marvin was a member of Farm Bureau. He was a 4-H Leader and coached his children’s summer baseball and softball teams. He was an avid sports fan and was always cheering for the Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Vikings, and Iowa Hawkeye basketball.

Living family members include his wife, Lucille; children: Cindy (Jim) Bradley of Cedar Rapids, Brian (Lisa Meyer) of Waverly, Craig (Michelle Martens) of Des Moines, and Karen (Steve) Krumwiede of Charles City; grandchildren: Melissa (Paul) Stenzel, Blake (Courtney Anderson), Kaitlynn Solberg, Matthew (Meghan Gerke) Bradley, Derek Bradley, Megan Solberg, and Anna Krumwiede; great grandchildren: Jay Stenzel and Connor Stenzel; along with many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Betsy Solberg; brothers: Ralph Solberg, Al Solberg, and Ervin Solberg; and grandson, Nicholas Solberg.
