Albert (Al) Schluter

Albert (Al) Schluter, 94 of Cresco, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021 at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco.

Albert was born on June 28, 1927 to August and Martha (Wegener) Schluter of Eldora, Iowa. He grew up in the Hubbard area. He attended Owasa High School, leaving for WWII in 1945. He was honorably discharged in July 1946. After returning from the service he received his GED in Nashua, Iowa.

On July 17, 1949 he married the love of his life, Ruby (Stansbery) at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union three children were born. Albert and Ruby farmed near Nashua until 1969. Al was active at St John’s Lutheran Church where he served on the building committee and boards. He decided later in life to go back to school and went on to study Building Materials Management at Area I (now NICC) in Calmar, Iowa. He worked at various lumber yards after completing his education. Ruby and Albert moved to Cresco in 1972, where he served on the City Council and worked for Featherlite. Albert had the privilege to go on the Honor Flight to Washington DC in October of 2010. Al was an avid sports enthusiast. He had no favorite teams, and enjoyed watching them all.

Survivors include his son Robert (Ruth) Schluter and daughters: Connie (Steve) Matt and Janice (Roger) Sommerfield, seven grandchildren: Christine (Dan) Juhl, Laura (Mike) Jump, David (Ashley) Schluter, Desmond (Megan) Matt, Tiffany (Adam) Barnes, Chad (Jody) Uhlenhake and Stephanie (Dayna) Uhlenhake, 12 great-grandchildren: Jake, Audrey, Kate, Liam, Nora, Dane, Ethin, Bella, Jaxson, Mitchell, Sydney and Will, sister in-law, Dorothy Schluter, brother in-law, Ray (Shirley) Stansbery and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby, on Jan. 12, 2021, two brothers, a sister in-law, a brother in-law, a nephew and a niece.

Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 20, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco. Visitation took place one hour prior to services at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Lindstrom Funeral Home is assisting the family.
