Penny Helen Boulton

Penny Helen Boulton died Dec. 17 at University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics after a two-month battle with colon cancer. She was survived by Jon Roger William Boulton, her husband of 57 years. They were married in Charles City, IA 7 weeks after their first date.

Born in Detroit, MI and raised in Jackson, MI and Charles City, IA, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley Haloran and Virginia Helen Haloran.

Penny received her RN from Allen College in Waterloo, IA. She completed her nursing training at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, IA and Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL. She was then an RN for over 50 years at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital (IL) and Munson Hospital Traverse City (MI).

In addition to her work as a Nurse, Penny was a devoted wife and mother. She was a Cub Scout Den Leader, extremely active in PTA Organizations at all of her boys schools, and actively involved in local politics her entire life.

Penny and Jon were bitten by the Lake Life bug and spent 25 of their best years enjoying the view from the windows, decks, and porches of their South Lake Leelanau, MI lake front home.

She particularly enjoyed throwing the ball and giving treats to the neighborhood dogs, engaging with neighbors, and hosting friends and families from across their lifetimes.

Survived by two sons, Jerome D. Boulton, San Pablo, CA; Daniel J. Boulton, Columus, OH; four grandchildren, Sean, Alex, Parker and Knox Boulton; two sisters, Kathleen Halloran, Phoenix, AZ Gayle Halloran, Iowa City, IA.
