David Alan King

David Alan King, age 72, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021 at the Minneapolis Veterans Home.

David Alan King was born in St. James Minnesota on Dec. 13, 1948, the third son of Orville and Anna Mae King. He graduated in 1967 from St. James High School. From 1967-1969 he was an active service member of the US Army who served multiple tours during the Vietnam War.

Dave was united in marriage to Beatrice Gaalswyk on July 30, 1973 at First Lutheran Church in St. James. Through this union they had two children, Gabriel and Nicole. Dave was a “happy-go-lucky” guy that enjoyed golfing, traveling, and making every minute count.

Dave was an entrepreneur that loved a challenge and most importantly, spending time with friends and family. He began his career as an accountant and throughout his life he started many businesses in Charles City Iowa including All States Quality Foods, King’s Nature Ranch and DW Transportation, which he named after two of his grandsons Dylan and Will.

Dave was a generous man, there are countless times that he would help a friend or family member in need and for many he was the first to call for some good, honest advice.

He is survived by his children Gabe (Alana) King of Seattle Washington, Nicole (Dustin) Swann of Osage Iowa; grandchildren: Dylan King, Will Filippo, Gavin Swann and Parker Swann; brothers: Robert (Beverly) King and John King; sister: Marilyn (Mike) Panzer; nephews: Mitch King, Nathan King, Joel (Haley) King, Jesse Panzer, Brian (Jennifer) Riggle, and Ryan King; nieces: Mary (Josh) Gallus and Sarah (Obiri) Yeboah; and his former wife Beatrice King. He was preceded in death by his parents Orville and Anna Mae King.

A celebration of life will be held in Osage Iowa from 3-6 p.m. on April 23 at the American Legion.

The family would like to give a special thanks and gratitude to the caregivers at the Minneapolis Veterans Home and VA Hospital as well as the brief but wonderful care from the Allina Health Hospice team.
