Chris Cordes

Chris Cordes, 80, of Lakeview, Arkansas, formerly of Charles City, passed away Friday, May 13, 2022 in Mason City.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2022 at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Chris Herman Cordes, the son of Ben and Susie (Brocka) Cordes, was born on Aug. 3, 1941 in Charles City. He graduated from Colwell High School. Chris served in the United States Navy. On Nov. 27, 1965, Chris was united in marriage to Shirley Bromley in Tilden, Nebraska.

Chris was a sheriff in Colwell. He also worked as a millwright for many years travelling around the country, with Shirley, to work in various car factories and with electrical turbines. He was a member of millwright union 1102. He was also a member of Bull Shoals United Methodist Church in Arkansas.

Chris had a passion for stock car races and would compete with his #28 stock car. He had a very generous heart and offered out a helping hand to his neighbors whenever they needed something fixed. Chris enjoyed his free time tinkering with cars and lawn mowers. Above everything in his life, Chris loved his family and was the best dad ever.

Living family members include his wife, Shirley; children: Rick (Marlene) Cordes, Christy (Kevin) Angell, Jeff (Jill) Cordes, Randy Cordes, and Benny Cordes; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Darlys (Bob) Roethler, Marlys Kutzbach, Ida Mae (Ralph) Arenholz, and Anna Bell Dohlman; sister-in-law, Beverly Cordes; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters, and many other family members.
