James White

James “Jim” Zane White, age 69 of Nashua, IA died Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Unity Point Health in Marshalltown, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory — Olson Chapel in Nashua, IA, with Pastor Rachelle R. Bobenmoyer presiding. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home before the service.

Interment will follow at Mt. Carrol Cemetery in rural Ionia. Online condolences for the White family may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.com.

Jim and his twin sister, Judith, were born on Aug. 14, 1952, in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Zane Carley and Agnes White. He and his six siblings grew up in the Chickasaw area, where his lifelong love of the outdoors began. Jim received his education at Charles City Community Schools.

On May 7, 1973, he was inducted into the U.S. Navy, and he served on the USS Lexington, an aircraft carrier that went into service during World War II, in a water rescue unit. Jim was proud of his service to his country.

After receiving his honorable discharge from the Navy, Jim landed a job in the Maintenance Department at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, and he enjoyed working and helping his fellow veterans for many years before health issues forced him to retire.

Jim married Sharon Zednecheck on April 22, 1982, in Marshalltown, and the couple later divorced.

Although Jim did not have children of his own, he was a great uncle and proud of his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed spending time with them and celebrating the milestones in their lives.

Jim had many interests — ranging from fishing to eagle watching to baseball games to taking in races. It didn’t matter who was driving or who was racing, he enjoyed visiting the track or watching races on television. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Purple Heart Association.

In October 2020, he moved to the Veterans Home in Marshalltown, and despite failing health, he continued his positive outlook on life.

Jim will be dearly missed by all those who knew him, and they are thankful for his service to his country and the contributions he made to their lives.

Jim is survived by his twin sister, Judith Learn of Charles City; his sister-in-law, Mary White of Nashua; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Rosie (Kenneth) Schmidt, and Joyce (Dale) Lockey; three brothers, William (Susie) White, Larry (Beverly) White, and Gary White; two nephews, Rodney White and Tracy White; and two nieces, Sandra Schmidt and Sandra White.
