Kathleen Ebert

Kathleen “Kathy” Ebert, 70, of Charles City, passed away Friday, Sept. 9, 2022 at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City with Pastor Russ Leeper officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.

Kathleen Kay (Scharnhorst) Ebert, the daughter of Erwin and Carrie (Nieman) Scharnhorst, was born on March 1, 1952 in Waverly. She graduated from Plainfield High School in 1970. On Nov. 17, 1973, Kathy was united in marriage to John Ebert and shared 49 wonderful years together.

Kathy was a very hard worker. She worked for Lutheran Mutual Life Insurance Co. (CUNA) in Waverly and Richards Motors in Charles City. Kathy and John bought the dealership and were co-owners of Ebert Chrysler Village for 20 years. Kathy was involved with the Community Improvement Association, Exchange Club, and volunteered at the Floyd County Medical Center gift shop. She was also a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City.

Kathy was a wonderful cook; always making sure her family was well fed. She spent many summers with her family on their boat in Clear Lake and Minnesota. Kathy and John loved to travel all around the world. She supported her grandsons in FFA and all of their sporting events. Above everything in her life, Kathy loved her family and will be dearly missed by all.

Living family members include her husband, John Ebert; son, Ryan Ebert; daughter, Melissa (Adam) Heitz; grandsons: Tanner (MacKenzie LaCoste) Heitz, Trever Heitz, and Tyler Heitz; sisters: Ellen Minard, Karen White, and twin Carolyn Fee; along with many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Norman Scharnhorst, Marvin Scharnhorst, and Don Scharnhorst; and two sisters: Delores Lindner and Betty Hartzell.
