Dennis Mandt

Dennis Mandt, 65, of Charles City, passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A funeral service for Dennis Mandt will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the start of the service at the funeral home on Saturday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the family.

Dennis Earl Mandt, the son of Alfred and Evelyn (Potter) Mandt, was born May 25, 1957 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He grew up in the Hanlontown area, received his education and stayed in the area for about 27 years helping on the family farm and working at the elevator.

Dennis met the love of his life, Sandy Hamm, through Sandy’s sister. The couple was united in marriage on May 24, 1986 in Charles City and were blessed with two children and five grandchildren. They made Charles City their home where Dennis worked at Comprehensive Systems for almost 20 years starting at different homes, working his way into maintenance, and finally recycling. He then worked as a mechanic for Anthony Bill Trucking until he was forced into retirement due to disability.

Dennis loved the outdoors whether it was fishing, biking, doing yard work, blowing snow or mowing his lawn (he would also help neighbors with their mowing because he loved his rider so much). He also enjoyed cruising in his car listening to music, smoking his cigarettes and storm chasing/watching storms while tuning in to his scanner. Dennis played games on his phone and was proud when he passed new levels.

Dennis was an overall handyman who could do just about anything. He worked on his cars, tinkered in the garage and loved spending time with his family (especially his grandchildren).

Whether you knew him as “Stubby”, “Grumpy” or “Pops” Dennis impacted a lot of lives and he will be missed dearly by all those who loved him.

Living family members include his wife, Sandy; son, Josh Mandt (Noel Christley); daughter, Jennifer Mandt (Leonard Harris); bonus son, Donald Harris all of Charles City; five grandchildren: Joshua Mandt, Jr., Jayla Mandt, Remmi Christley, Leonard Harris, Jr., Aaliyah Harris and Lillyana Harris; cousin, Rosetta Todd; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; aunt and uncle, Bert and Stella Kaasa; and sister, Betty.
