Donna Mae Stewart

Donna Mae Stewart, 88, a resident of Riverside Senior Living in Charles City, IA died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023, at 9th Street Chautauqua, Charles City, IA. A small, private family memorial service was held in the chapel at St. John Lutheran Church on March 1, 2023. A community service will be held at later date.

Donna Mae (Field) Stewart was born Sept. 28, 1934, in Charles City, Iowa, the daughter of Emory and Florence Field. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1951. On Dec. 31, 1952, she married Larry Stewart when he was home on break from the Air Force. Donna and Larry lived in Colorado, Goldfield, IA, Bloomington, MN, and Charles City, IA.

In 1975 Donna and Larry returned to Charles City, IA. Donna worked as a Store Activities Representative for McDonald’s. In 1991 Donna became a licensed REALTOR at Larry Stewart Realty and Stewart Realty Company for nearly 30 years. She was a member of the National and Iowa Association of Realtors, Cedar Valley Board of Realtors and the Northeast Iowa Regional Board Realtors. Donna held numerous leadership positions throughout her real estate career.

Donna was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed serving communion to those who were unable to attend church plus other countless acts of service. She was active in several community organizations some of which include: City Improvement Association, Charles City Chamber of Commerce, Charles City Community Revitalization and she mentored through the Just Friends organization. Donna was named Charles City Woman of the Year and was also inducted into the Comet Foundation Hall of Fame. Donna donated her body to the Anatomical Bequest Program, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, for medical education, research and surgical training, and the development and testing of new surgical devices and techniques.

Donna had a soft spoken, gentle, peaceful personality. She looked for the good in all things and spread her kindness and love freely with her family, her community and through her Church in which she exhibited a steadfast faith in her Lord and Savior. She was always looking for ways to serve others. In her free time, Donna enjoyed card making, gardening, hosting family and friends in her home and watching Big 10 sporting events in which she especially enjoyed college basketball.

Donna will be greatly missed by her husband, Larry, and their six children and their spouses and partners: Lori, Dana (Patti), Gary (Peggy), Lana (Tom Wavra), Joni Horvath (Chris) and Dean (Sara); her 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; her sisters Delores Abel, Dixie (Jack) Dunagan, Dianne Harrold and Debbie Gitch; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Emory and Florence Field; sister Darlene Lyman; and a great-grandson, Drake Foren.

The family suggests memorials to the Charles City City Improvement Association and St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.
