Seth Bryant was born on Feb. 8, 1941 in Mason City Iowa to Ralph and Marjory Bryant. He went to country schools in Mason City and Charles City until Middle School when he joined Charles City Schools and graduated from Charles City High School in 1960. After graduation he joined the National Guard.

In 1968 he married Margaret Bailey George from Mason City. Together they raised their only son Julius. While working on his father’s farm he began his first job at White Farm. He worked there ten years before he began his own business with Harry Howe putting in drainage tile for area farmers. Eventually this was Seth’s business and he put in many long hours along with working on the farm for his father as well as his own. He raised organic corn and organic cattle. He also owned a Ford gum route purchased from his uncle in Mason City Jule Thompson. He delivered gumballs to machines in many stores and gas stations, often known as the “gum man”. He eventually had 700 machines across Iowa. Gum would be delivered by the semi load and he would load it in his Cadillac and head out on a gum journey on days when it was too rainy to work on the farm. Seth owned a red and white 1962 Corvette that he enjoyed. He was not known to drive any too fast.

Margaret and his church were the love of his life. He was a very active member of the Wesleyan Church now known as The Bridge and would do anything the church or camp needed. He would use his backhoe and equipment at the camp for any work needed. He and Margaret would take their camper to the campgrounds to be available for whatever was needed. He was a driver for their bus ministry, Sunday school teacher and superintendent, Youth director, usher, and served on the church board.

Seth was one of the initial members of the Charles City Gideon Camp beginning in the early 70’s. He was very active and devoted including serving as president. He was active in delivering bibles to many students and was a preacher in many different situations sharing his testimony and Love for the Lord with many. They traveled to many churches sharing the Gideon ministry.

Seth is survived by his wife Margaret Bryant, sister in laws Dolly Bryant and Myrt Hamblin, nephews James, Paul, and David Bryant, Seth Harnack and niece Julie Bryant. He also had several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Julius in January 2023, his parents Ralph and Marjory Bryant, brothers Dennis and Jerry (Vi) Bryant and sister Jean (Bob) Boekemeier, nieces Delores Drilen and Theresa Viaz, brother-in-law Bob Bailey, and sister-in-law Waneta Bagger.
