Dolores Tinius

It is with the deepest regret that we announce the passing of our mother, Dolores Tinius, 90, of Charles City, on May 17th, 2023.

Dolores Eileen Tinius was born Sept. 19, 1932, in Laurens, Iowa to Arthur and Marcella (Parks) Brown. She graduated from Laurens High School in 1950.

Dolores was married to Robert Tinius on Aug. 17, 1952, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union four children were born: Gayle, Barb, Deb and Jason. Dolores was incredibly proud of her family.

Dolores was a natural caregiver, helping people through the years and never wanting anything in return. She was an animal lover, caring for the family pets and feral cats. She fed cats all year long, even building a shelter in the winter so they could eat in comfort.

Dolores was a member of the First Congregation Church where she enjoyed her Tuesday Bible Study group and cherished the people there.

Dolores was an avid reader and when her kids were little, she would stand at the kitchen counter and read. As long as she remained standing, they would think she was busy and would leave her alone.

She also loved to mow the yard and now that we write this, we realize she did this so she couldn’t hear us kids fighting. She was very clever.

Dolores is survived by her children, Gayle (Tom) Brunner, Barb (Rick) Burton both of Charles City, Deb Tinius (Dick Miller) of Morton IL, Jason (Rebekah) Tinius of Sturgeon MO.  Grandchildren: Rich, Greg, Amy, Kurt, Kelli, Adam, Taji, Ty, Jona and Henry. Great-Grandchildren: Greyer, Remy, Ridley, Brielle, Clara, Jadyn, Cade and Mya. Many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Robert. Her parents and in-laws and sister Patsy Murray. And many other family members.

Following Dolores’ wishes there will be no services. A private family service will be held, at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Special thanks to Riverside Assisted Living, St.Croix Hospice, and 11th St. Chautuaqua, for the loving care she received.

Any memorials may be directed to the animal shelter of your choosing.
