Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2023, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City and will continue one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.

Maida was born Feb. 6, 1938, on the family farm just north of Bassett. She was the only child of Mildred (Kilby) Draheim and Melvin Boggess. She attended Chickasaw County Country School and then Charles City High School.

In 1955, she married Robert Lore. She then proceeded to raise her five children as a single parent. Denise, Jeff, Bobby, Valerie, and David were the most important people to her. She raised them as a single parent when single parenting was not common. She always said her dream job was being a mother.

In 1972, Maida attended the Calmar School of Nursing, receiving her LPN that same year. She worked at the 11th Street Chautauqua Nursing Home for several years. While working at the nursing home, Dr. Ayers and his wife, Marian, encouraged her to get her RN degree. On scholarship from Dr. Ayers and Marian, she received her RN degree in 1979. After working a few more years at the nursing home, Maida went on to become the “Nurse” at Solvay and Salsbury Chemical. She was a dedicated nurse helping many in the community whenever they needed her.

In 1980, she married Clarence Wiegmann. They made their home in Floyd, Iowa for 16 years. They were known to the grandchildren as Grandpa and Grandma Wiggie.

Maida then shared her love and life with Don Thorson, for over two decades. They blended their families with great love and happiness.

For the past three years she has spent her time and happiness with Dick Uetz.

Maida was committed to her family and her cherished friends (Alma, Jo Ann, Caroline, Pauleen, Delores, and Darleen) old and new. She was a member of Floyd Grace United Methodist Church and was a Pink Lady at the hospital in Charles City.

Maida was a loving mom, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She is survived by her children: Denise (Jerry) Conway, Austin, Texas, Bobby (Pam) Lore, Bassett, Iowa, and David Lore, Austin, Texas; 13 grandchildren;19 great grandchildren who called her Grandma Wiggie; as well as the Thorson family that called her grandma.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence Wiegmann; Don Thorson; brother, Leroy Draheim; son, Jeff Lore; daughter, Valerie Tedder; and great-grandson, John Anthony Fey.

The family would like to thank the staff of 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home and MercyOne North Iowa Hospice. A special thank you to Martha, Rob, Vicki, and Rachel.
