Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the start of the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Frederick George King, the son of Marreld and Bernice (Seidel) King, was born Oct. 17, 1942 in Fillmore, Minnesota on the farm. The family moved around until they settled in Charles City when Marreld found work at White Farm. Fred graduated from Charles City High School in 1962. After graduation, he worked at White Farm until they closed. From White Farm he went to work at Alpana and Curries Manufacturing where he finally retired. After retirement, he went to work at The Meyer’s farm for Terry and Becky Meyer, which he truly enjoyed because it was more like a hobby than a job.

On June 20, 1964 Fred was united in marriage to Sharon Powell. They met roller skating and eventually eloped and were married in Laverne, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with three girls: Sherry, Tricia, and Colleen.

Some of Fred’s hobbies were camping, fishing, hunting, gambling, being a member of The Moose and most of all spending time with his grandkids: Renae, Alex and Rebecca (truly the lights of his life). He also had a love for his animals: Red, Sadie, Penny, Teddy, Missy and several more.  Fred had a passion for collecting owls and had a room full of them.

Fred is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sharon; three daughters: Sherry King (Todd Bates), Tricia (Troy) Bahlmann and Colleen (Shawn) Goddard; three grandchildren: Renae Mitchell (Tom Frieden), Alexander (Becca) Mitchell and Rebecca Bates; four step-grandchildren: Ashley Sanders, Ethan Bates, Jacob (Allison) Bates and Anna Bates; sister, Darlys (Rick) Rogers; three brothers: Duane (Cleone) King, Wayne (Debbie) King and Cecil (Kathleen) King; sisters-in-law: Pat Powell, Sandy Spencer, Mary (Dan) Blair, Jane Ritzert and Judy Reich; along with several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marreld and Bernice King; father and mother-in-law, Ernest and Loretta Powell; sister, Leona Parish; brothers-in-law: Roger Powell, Kurt Spencer and Lee Ritzert; and nephew, Jim Powell.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Jeffrey Nasstrom in Osage and MercyOne North Iowa Hospice (especially Martha Winters and Vicki Grimm) for all of the great care they provided for Fred.
