Randy Eugene Abbott, the son of Lloyal and Darlene (Havenhill) Abbott (his parents later divorced, and Darlene married Gary Roeder), was born Oct. 6, 1958 in Charles City, Iowa. He attended Charles City schools where he was active in shop class and swimming (making to state).

In 1982, Randy was united in marriage to Kelly Stewart. They were blessed with two sons: Derek and Adam. Randy started his working career at Sherman Nursery and with the help of Perry Howell he became “educated” with flowers and trees. Later he started with Allied Road Construction, then a couple of years with Cambrex. Randy didn’t like being stuck inside so he returned to Allied-Manatt’s Construction and finished with Manatt’s Construction.

In his down time with family Randy enjoyed board games and cards (which he seemed to always be the winner!) and fishing trips with his boys and friends. His best story is going “noodling” in Oklahoma with Doug McInroy (seems like the fish always grew with each telling). Randy also enjoyed his “toys”: Jet Skis, four-wheelers, dirt bikes and always racing on the weekends.

If asking around town Randy was always working on something. Making log splitters, wood stoves, lawn rollers, utility carts, engine stands, cherry pickers or rebuilding a pick-up. Another passion was working on anything Chevy. If there were any problems he could not solve, he could call a friend or two. Randy loved to collect things too. Whether it was guns, knives, John Wayne memorabilia, marbles or lots, lots more.

In the winter months Randy could always be found baking Amish friendship bread, turkey jerky, buckboard bacon or canning food to feed his family for the next year or two. Randy made friends wherever he went. Many trips to Hermitage, Missouri to visit Perry and Codean Howell who he considered his second parents. He loved going to Branson to see the shows, always stopping at Bass Pro Shops before coming home.

Those left to honor Randy’s memory are his wife, Kelly; children: Derek (Bridgette) Abbott and Adam (Dana Baker) Abbott; six grandchildren: Ben Naumann, Loralei Abbott, Liam Abbott, Caden Baker, William Baker and Izabella Baker; aunt, Betty Lou Orric; sisters: Connie (Mike) Bass of Twentynine Palms, California and Kelley (Chris) Maskeri of Charlotte, North Carolina; brothers: Ed (Reiko) Abbott of Charles City and Duane (Diane) Abbott of New Hampton; many nieces and nephews; and his best canine companion, Bob.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; father and mother-in-law, Gordon and Mabel Stewart; and friends, Perry and Codean Howell.
