Larry Bohner

Larry Bohner, 76, of Charles City, passed away Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City with Pastor Russ Leeper from Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

The visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service at the funeral home on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Croix Hospice.

Larry Eugene Bohner, the son of Robert and LaVonne (Behrends) Bohner, was born on May 14, 1947, in Charles City. He attended country school until 8th grade and then Charles City High School, graduating in 1968. After graduation, Larry served in the United States Army and then the Nation Guard. During his time in the Army, Larry met the love of his life Hui Cha “Peggy” Im. The couple married on April 30, 1969, in Seoul, Korea and made their home in Charles City in July of 1969.

Larry worked for Salsbury Laboratory, Hydrotile in Nashua, Solvay and Cambrex of Charles City. Larry loved to spend time outdoors gardening, camping, fishing, and canoeing. In his younger years, he enjoyed dancing with Peggy at the Moose Lodge. Above everything in Larry’s life, family was the most important to him and would do anything for them.

Living family members include his devoted and loving wife of 54 years, Peggy; daughter, Jeanette Mulcahy of Council Bluffs; son, Kevin Bohner of Mason City; granddaughter, Paige (Quinn) DeBower of Mason City; sister, Sharon (LeRoy) Rover of Charles City; brother, Don (Marlys) Bohner of Charles City; and sister, Marilyn (Dave) Thoe of Golden, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Bohner; mother, LaVonne Fritze; and sisters, Pat Larue and Judy Taylor.
