Ronald ‘Ron’ Buhr

Ronald “Ron” Buhr, 83, of Charles City, passed away Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, at his home.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City. A memorial service will follow at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Patty Kellogg officiating.

Ronald James Buhr, the son of Elmer and Esther (Lewis) Buhr, was born on Nov. 29, 1940, in Fredericksburg. He graduated from Fredericksburg High School. After high school, Ron joined the United States Army and was with the Army Reserve for more than 20 years. Ron was united in marriage to Marlys Blunt on June 5, 1964, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg. The couple was blessed with 54 years of marriage until Marlys’ passing in 2018.

Ron worked at Salsbury-Solvay Labs (Fort Dodge Animal Health) for 40 years until his retirement. Ron also helped his father and friends with farming for many years.

Ron was a great bowler for 50 years. He was an avid fisherman and took many fishing trips to Canada with his friends. One of these fishing trips earned him an award for saving a person’s life. Ron also enjoyed gardening and playing cards.

Living family members include his son, Russell Buhr of Charles City; son, Raymond Buhr of Loveland, Colorado; daughter, Rhonda (Doug) Rosendahl of Mason City; and grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Emily Buhr and Morgan and Brock Dvorak.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Marlys.
