Cindy (Onken) Burke

Cindy Burke was born Feb. 11, 1962 in Bourne, Massachusetts, to Keith and Alberta (Woodworth) Onken Sr. She passed away peacefully in her home on March 22, 2024, near Sedgwick, Kansas.

Cindy was raised in Charles City, Iowa, and graduated from Charles City High School. She was an active member of the Chickasaw County Women’s Pool League, winning numerous tournaments. She had a passion for crafting, particularly macrame.

Cindy and the love of her life, Dan Burke, were married on Feb. 4, 2000, in Charles City, Iowa. Together, they enjoyed dancing and cooking until Dan’s passing in May 2022. In 2014, the couple relocated to Kansas to be closer to family. Cindy found joy in working in the deli at Dillions and cherished time spent with her grandson, attending his school and sporting events.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dan Burke; parents Keith Sr. and Alberta Onken; her sister Connie (Onken) Becker and brother Keith Onken Jr.

Cindy is survived by nieces Julie (Kelly) Berggren of Williams, MN, Jamie Onken (Reece Buttjer) of Plainfield, IA, and Kristle Becker; nephew Kevin (Angela) Becker; great-niece Brooklyn Berggren; great-nephews Hudson Berggren and Ryker Berggren; stepchildren Tim (Amanda) Burke of Kathleen, GA and Jesi (Erik) Luster of Sedgwick, KS; grandsons Colten Burke, Garrett Burke, Liam Burke, and Riley Luster.

Cindy will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her and her beautiful spirit. Though she may no longer be with us in body, she will continue to live in our hearts.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
