Doris Hibner

Doris Hibner, 85, of Charles City, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2024 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A funeral service for Doris Hibner will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City with Pastor Steve Poole from Cedar Hills Community Church in Cedar Rapids officiating.  Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024 and will continue one hour before the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Charles City American Legion Post #174 in Doris’ name to help with needed ramp repair.

Doris Marie (Knapp) Hibner was born on March 18, 1939 to Melvin and Catherine (Bradshaw) Knapp at home in Charles City, Iowa.  She graduated from Colwell High School in 1957. Doris married Donald Lavern Hibner on June 23, 1957 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. This union was blessed with three children:  Delores, Daniel and Delwin.

Doris was employed at the Charles City Community Schools in food service for 27 years. She carried the joy of baking over to her home, where she baked breads, Christmas candy, desserts and loved to look at cookbooks.

Doris and Don enjoyed playing 500 in various card clubs from 1959 to 2009. Her next favorite thing was traveling to country music festivals throughout the Midwest. Texas winter music festivals were a favorite activity for many years where Doris managed the merchandise table for Terry Smith and met many country music friends.

Mrs. Hibner was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Catherine Knapp; brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Millie Knapp; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Don Backer; and son, Danny.  She is survived by her husband, Don, of 66 years; daughter, Delores (Jim) Heaton of Corning, Iowa; son, Delwin (Ruth) Hibner of Charles City; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
