Robert Barth

Robert D. Barth, age 82, of Greene, IA, passed away peacefully under the care of Care Initiatives Cedar Valley Hospice at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison on June 24, 2024. Visitation will be 5-7 pm, Friday, June 28, at Woodley Funeral Home, 519 N. 1st St., Greene. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Greene.

Robert Darrel Barth was born Oct.5, 1941 in Charles City to parents, Darrel (Fuzz) and Roberta (Boyd) Barth. Bob was the oldest of six children, four boys and two girls. He graduated from Greene High School with the Class of 59. He played in all sports, baseball, football, basketball and track. He attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette. During the summers of ‘61 through ‘66, Bob played baseball for 4 different teams, including Salsbury’s in Charles City and the Allison Cats. Bob’s other passions were fishing and golfing. His biggest delights were watching his children and grandchildren playing sports and music.

On Sept. 15, 1962, he married Rita Kepple. Bob and Rita were to become the parents of five children. They also claimed their “Dutch Daughter” Kiki who was their exchange student from the Netherlands. Over the years they made six trips to Europe continuing that great relationship. Bob and Rita made a lot of fishing trips to Minnesota and South Dakota too, plus many, many miles put on visiting kids and grandkids.

After graduating, Bob worked as parts manager for Barth Chevrolet, then was hired as school bus mechanic and head driver for GCS. In 1981 he went to Round Grove Golf and Country Club where he was employed as course superintendent for 29 years.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Rita; five children: Robert Boyd (Shawn) Barth of Davison, MI; Brenda (Todd) Medenwaldt of Medford WI; Denise (Chris) Nenninger of St. Louis MO; April (Shawn) Grant of Colleyville TX; Nicole (Erik) Graham of St. Louis, MO; 8eight grandchildren. one brother, Kenny Barth of Clarion; One sister Barbara (Jim) Killoran of Dubuque.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Jerry and Harry, and one sister Linda Anderson.
