Eunice Tommingo

Eunice Tommingo, 96, stepped into the embrace of her Lord on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, with her husband of 76 years, Robert, by her side, where they resided together at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City, Iowa.

A Family Celebration of Life at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City will take place at a future date to be determined.

Eunice Marie Olson was born to Lawrence and Mabel Olson on Jan. 29, 1928 at her parents’ home in Goldfield, Iowa, the youngest of four children. She attended the Goldfield Public Schools, graduating from High School in 1945, and was a star basketball player there. She moved to Charles City in 1945 to work as a secretary at Salsbury Labs. She was a baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church in Goldfield, and reaffirmed her baptism at age 21 at the First Baptist Church in Charles City.  She was a current member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Charles City.

She met Robert Tommingo through her friend Wilma Handt in 1946 in Charles City when Bob was home on furlough from the Merchant Marines. On June 26, 1948, they married at the Goldfield Methodist Church in Goldfield, Iowa. Three children were born of this union. Throughout the years, in addition to being a mother and homemaker, Eunice also was employed as a secretary for Bob’s insurance business, for the Oliver payroll office, for the PX office at the base they lived on in California, for the Cedar Valley Loan office, the Abstract office, for Howard R Green Engineering, and for W.P Pelz’s office. She will be remembered as an avid golfer and enjoyed shopping, playing Bingo and Bridge, volunteering in the community, and spending time with family and friends.

Eunice’s legacy include her husband Robert of Charles City, and her three sons: Larry (Barb) Tommingo of Charles City, Steve (Crystal) Tommingo of Urbandale, and Danny (Mary) Tommingo of Bloomington, Minnesota, and former daughter-in-law Diane Tommingo of Charles City. There are six grandchildren: Laurie (Joe) Darnell, Alyssa Tommingo, Elliot (Diana) Tommingo, Ross (Julie) Tommingo, Alex (Kara) Tommingo, and Brandy (Jesse) Hautala. Great-grand-daughters are Ella and Zoey Darnell, Lyvie and Lexie Tommingo, Noel Tommingo and Joy Tommingo; and several nieces. Eunice has one brother-in-law, Gene Tommingo of Sierra Vista, Arizona.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Lester Olson; sisters: Avonne Foster and Lola Lees; and sisters-in-law: Karen and Nancy Tommingo.
