Mary Monroe Castle

Mary Ann Castle, age 71, died of leukemia on Aug. 20, 2024 with her three children at her side, in Burlington, Iowa.

Mary was born Dec. 7 1952, the third of four children to Bernard and Susie (Haag) Monroe. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1971. She then attended Nursing college and worked as a nurse through much of her life until retiring in 2018.

On Feb. 9, 1974 she and Clinton Dan Castle were married and lived in several states, raising their family until divorcing in 1993. Her children and grandchildren were the most important things in her life and her family enjoyed many holidays and great times together.

Mary is survived by her two daughters Danielle (Wayne Green), Michelle (Joe Shafer), son Nathan (Wendy) Castle. She is also survived by five grandchildren and great-grandson, her brother Joe Monroe of Charles City, brother-in-law Ronald Stuart and several nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gregory Monroe and sister Lodema Stuart.
