Jerry Micho
Jerry Micho, 84, of Charles City, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City with his loving family by his side.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Jerry Micho will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City with Reverend Tom Heathershaw officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City at a later date.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the start of the funeral Mass at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or St. Croix Hospice.
Jerry Martin Micho was welcomed into this world on Sept. 26, 1939, in Bay City, Michigan by his parents Aceie “Sonny” and Thelma (Weiler) Micho and his older brother William “Bill”.
Jerry and his family spent many happy times at their cabin up north near the Au Sable River in Michigan’s lower peninsula. The boys enjoyed swimming, fishing and catching rattlesnakes.
Jerry attended High School at Bay City Central where he also enjoyed his favorite sports, wrestling and cross country.
Shortly after graduation in 1957, Jerry enlisted in the United States Navy. During his Navy career he served aboard the aircraft carriers USS Bennington and the USS Kearsarge out of San Diego, California. He also served in VP-10 out of Brunswick, Maine and VP-47 out of Moffet Field in California. He was very proud to be a Vietnam Veteran, also being named Honor Man of a Navy school he attended and being named Air Crew of the Year in 1962. Jerry retired here, to Charles City, in 1979 as a Senior Chief Petty Officer after serving three years as a recruiter.
Jerry met the love of his life, Bonnie York, when he came home on leave. They were married on July 13, 1962. The couple was blessed with two children: a son, Jim and a daughter, Kathi.
Surviving family members include his wife, Bonnie; son, Jim (Krista) Micho; daughter, Kathi (Tim) Munson; and brother, Bill (Stella) Micho. Also grandchildren: Cole Micho, Abbi Micho, Brittney Katcher, Zack Koster, Harley (Luke) Brown and Josh (Stephani) Munson; great-grandchildren: Presley Katcher, Raylan Katcher, Huxley Brown and Macey Brown; along with a number of nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Barb Micho.
