Lyle Edward Bauer

Lyle Edward Bauer died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was born on May 5, 1939, in Charles City, Iowa, to Edward and Maxine Bauer. His father was a machinist for Oliver Tractor and his mother, before she had children, was a country school teacher.

Lyle was the eldest of two children. He and his sister, Jean, grew up in town, but spent a lot of time on his relatives’ farms and enjoyed the outdoors. From an early age, Lyle enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and repairing/rebuilding things. He was also an accomplished piano player and played the baritone in the Charles City High School Band.

He graduated from Iowa State University in 1961, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and was a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering honorary.

He married Freda Ann Stoops on Dec. 30, 1961, in Grimes, Iowa. Lyle proudly served in the Army National Guard from 1961-1968. He was a licensed Professional Engineer and had a career spanning 45-plus years as a mechanical engineer and project manager.

Lyle’s passion for his work was second to his love of his wife and family. He shared his lifelong love of nature and the outdoors with his family, friends and countless other young people as a coach, Boy Scout leader, Boundary Water canoe guide and a hunter.

He was an active member of Rejoice! Lutheran Church and lived his life with integrity, honesty and a deep faith in God.

Lyle is survived by his wife of 62 years, Freda (Stoops) Bauer; by children Scott Bauer, Allison (Crane) Bauer, Leah Bauer and Stacy Lerner; and by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Wilhelm Bauer; mother, J. Maxine (Cummings) Bauer; sister Jean (Bauer) Werth and brother-in-law Kelvin Werth; sister-in-law Elise (Stoops) Noe and brother-in-law John Noe; and son-in-law David Lee Lerner.

Visitation was held 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at Rejoice! Lutheran Church. Celebration of Life was held Monday, Sept. 23, at 11 a.m. with lunch following at Rejoice! Lutheran Church.

Memorials are suggested to Sienna Francis House; Northern Tier Base (Boy Scouts of America) in Ely, Minnesota; Hope West Food Pantry at Rejoice! Lutheran Church; or a charity of your choice.
