Sherman Loudermilk
Sherman Loudermilk, 82, of Charles City, passed away Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City with family by his side.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City with Pastor Russ Leeper officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10 a.m. until the start of the service on Tuesday at the church.
Sherman Dexter Loudermilk, the son of Sherman and Mildred (Pruin) Loudermilk, was born on Jan. 20, 1942, in Spencer, Iowa. He grew up in Spencer and Milford, graduating from Milford High School in 1960. Sherman was drafted into the United States Army and served from 1964-1966. Sherman met Diane Christiansen at a bowling alley and married in 1969 at Belmont Lutheran Church in Lakefield, Minnesota.
Sherman worked at Morton Buildings in Spencer and Charles City, and retired from Solvay Laboratories in Charles City. Sherman had a great sense of humor. He never knew a stranger and could strike up a conversation with any person, anywhere. He was a proud handyman around his home and was always tinkering and creating things from scraps. Sherman was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing and took many fishing and boating trips with his family and friends.
Living family members include his wife, Diane Loudermilk; son, Jeremy (Mandi) Loudermilk, and their daughter, Isabel; son, Eric Loudermilk; daughter, Dawn Alam and her son, Jonah; brother-in-law, Stan Erickson; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sharon Erickson and Sue McMichael; brother, John Loudermilk; and brother-in-law, Gary McMichael.
