As a Delavan resident for 20-plus years he taught at Badger High School in Lake Geneva, WI, and substitute taught at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and School in Delavan, WI. He also dedicated many years to working at Lakeland School of Walworth County in Elkhorn, WI, working with students with disabilities.

John had many passions in life. He was a great storyteller and enjoyed sharing (and embellishing a little) with his many friends through their visits and his love of collecting postcards. Most people will remember John for his sense of humor. He kept that sense of humor until the very end, which was a comfort to those around him. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, gardening, planting sunflowers, planting trees, and feeding the birds. He had an undying desire for conserving and improving the wildlife habitat on his family farm in Charles City, IA, which has been in the family since 1872. John’s greatest passion of all, however, was his three children.

John is preceded in death by his parents, John G. and Frances (Sherman) Loomer. He is survived by his three children, Anna (Evon) Selestow, Daniel, and John; his brother Mark (Tanya), nephew, Xavier, nieces, Kira, Cami, and Lexi, and special friend, Robyn.
