She was a 1943 graduate of James Whitcomb Riley High School in South Bend. While in school, she was active in Glee Club, Girls’ Softball, and Volleyball, and was a typist for the school newspaper, the Hi-Times. She was also a Bronze Scholarship Pin recipient. After high school, Goldie’s first job was working for the Office of Price Administration (OPA). She was to go to local cafes and restaurants to check and compare prices, a job she enjoyed.

One of Goldie’s favorite pastimes was bowling. On one night out, bowling with friends, she met a young sailor who was stationed at Notre Dame University in South Bend. Goldie and that sailor, James (Jim) William Jordan, were married on May 26, 1944.

She was always good with numbers, so when Goldie had the opportunity, she took a job as a cashier in the Accounting Department at the Studebaker Corporation in South Bend. She left Studebaker in 1958 when Jim’s job with the Oliver Corporation took him to Charles City, Iowa. She and Jim attended the Trinity United Methodist Church there. Shortly after the move to Iowa, Goldie was hired as a private secretary at Salsbury Laboratories in Charles City.

Goldie and Jim still enjoyed bowling and participated in several leagues. In addition to bowling, they also liked to fish, spending many weekends and vacations fishing in rivers and ponds in northeast Iowa. For several years, they had a trailer along the Mississippi River near Lansing, and many times their children and grandchildren joined them there to relax and do some fishing.

Because he was a veteran, Goldie and Jim joined the VFW and the American Legion. There were many VFW Fish Fries where Jim fried the fish and Goldie helped to serve. Later they became active in the Charles City Community Center, where Goldie served as the secretary and helped with membership records and building rentals. Goldie and Jim were very proud of organizing and planning the popular Senior Center Jam Sessions.

Goldie enjoyed Scrabble, card games, and was an avid reader. Even when her eyesight was failing, she continued to enjoy reading on a tablet with enlarged fonts.

Goldie was preceded in death by her husband: James (11-16-2017); her sisters: Mary, Ann Elizabeth, Elizabeth Ann, and Theresa Mary, and her brothers: Alfred Robert (Bob), John, and Frank.

She is survived by her daughters: SallyAnn (Dennis) Wetherell, Cedar Falls and Kathleen (Clifford) Salmons, Charles City; her son: James William Jordan, Jr., Newbury Park, CA; her grandchildren: David (Shawna) Wetherell, Cedar Rapids, Donald Wetherell, Cedar Falls, Jennifer (David Ash) Hanlon Ash, St. Anthony, MN, and Jessica (Mike) Kelly, Minneapolis, MN; great grandchildren: Bailey (Kylie) Wetherell, Parker Wetherell, Hobbes Hanlon, Iris Hanlon, Aidan (Bailey) Kelly, and Brennan Kelly; and great-great grandchildren: Noah Wetherell, Wyatt Wetherell, and Nova Kelly.

Per her wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life is being planned for a future date.
