Joyce Mary (Buckner) (Cook) Nott, the daughter of Clarence and Mary Gold (Langman) Buckner, was born on Dec. 26, 1929, in Rockford, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Floyd School.
Joyce married Rolland Cook on May 1, 1947. They started their life together on the farm, where she was no stranger after helping her father on their family farm. Joyce and Rolland worked side by side on their dairy farm milking cows, doing chores, baling hay, driving tractors, and pretty much anything that needed to be done, as well as raising their six children. When the farm chores were done, she headed inside to make homemade bread, rolls, chocolate chip cookies, and vegetable soup. Joyce was an excellent cook and made everything from scratch. Eventually Joyce and Rolland retired and moved to town in 1989.
Rolland passed away in 2013 and Joyce married Warren Nott. Together they took day trips, went shopping, and played cards with their friends and son-in-law, Russ Berns, and brother-in-law, John Miller.
Joyce worked at a flower shop and did flowers for her children’s weddings, drove the Foster Grandparent van, worked at Saxony (where she always wore beautiful clothes with lots of bling), owned the Golden Touch Beauty Salon, and worked at State Farm as an office helper until her retirement at the age of 80. She was also a self-employed baker and was known for making the best pies in town. Joyce loved to sing and was in the Sweet Adelines Choir and sang at many nursing homes. Joyce always spent a lot of time with her grandchildren, and they loved spending time with her making memories.
Living family members include her six children: Nancy (Craig) Pogemiller, Sharon (Mike) Garden, Gail (Tom) Rouse, Mark Cook, Gloria (Russ) Berns, and Julie Stroot (Les Reynolds); stepsons, Jerry (Marlene) Nott and Allen (Patricia) Nott; grandchildren: Amy (Stephen) Taylor, Megan (Ben) Stineman, Lucas (Hannah) Pogemiller, Alison (Shawn) Newhouse, Dustin (Tracy) Regan, Kase (Bri) Regan, Machela (Denny) Howe, Abby (Don) Helton, Robyn (Chaz) Williamson, Krista (Austin) Zweifelhofer, Brian (Natalie) Cook, Lacy (Tyler) Reams, Paige (Tom) Parcher, Brady Stroot and Kylie Stroot (Mel); 30 great-grandchildren; and sister, Carol (John) Miller; along with many nieces, nephews, and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; spouses, Rolland Cook and Warren Nott; sisters: Margaret Nauman, Evelyn Zierath, Rose Kuhlmier, and Ruby Phillips; and brother, Chester Buckner.
