Mitchell Scott Martin

Mitchell Scott Martin, also known as Scotty or Mitch, 60, of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away at home Sunday, June 1, 2025, after a short battle with cancer.

Parents Rex and Virginia (Roethler) Martin welcomed Mitch into the world on April 7, 1965, in Charles City, IA, joining his proud older brother Michael.

Mitch was a Charles City Class of 1983 graduate, excelling in track and basketball. His love of sports never changed throughout his life; whether it was on the greens swinging a club or with his cue aimed at his best shot on the tables with his pool league or with his brother, Mike.

Right from high school Mitch departed straight to the military, to the Navy Special Warfare. The water is where he truly found his calling in serving his country, carrying great pride in what he and many others have given to make America better.

After retirement from the Navy, Mitch found his way back to Iowa. This is where he finally found his peace, marrying his wife Kimberly (Scott) Martin in August of 2010. They ultimately made their home in Ankeny.

Surviving family members include wife Kim from Ankeny, Iowa; children Letasha (Tracy) Baxter, twins Benjamin (Ashley) Caster, Nashua, Iowa, and Hannah (James) Gerleman, Charles City, Iowa, Samantha Martin, Arkansas, Tabitha Martin, Tennessee, Jessica Adams, Ankeny, Iowa, Travis (Savannah) Putney, Altoona, Iowa, and Alicia (Cameran) Putney of Des Moines; 24 grandchildren; his brother Michael (Judy) Martin) of Rochester, Minn., along with many special friends and extended family members.

Mitchell was proceeded in death by his parents, Rex and Virginia Martin.

Private military burial will be held in Van Meter, IA.
