Press had hand in low election turnout

I noticed with interest the title of today’s editorial, “What if 101 CC votes really meant something?” My question is “How many CC citizens would have voted if The Press had covered the election at all?”

In the past few weeks the only mention of the election I found was the list of candidates and polling places which appeared on election day. Not good enough and definitely not earning a rebuke for those who did not know about the election because they rely on The Press for local news.

Sincerely yours,

The Rev. Kathryn S. Campbell, Charles City

College should be free and affordable

Hello, my name is Billie Rodemaker. I am a student at the Charles City High School. I am writing to you about my opinion on free college in America. My opinion is that I feel like a lot more people would have the opportunity to fulfill their dream job or whatever their plan is for college. Everyone should be able to go to college, but I get it that some people don’t have money to go and that makes it hard for some families that can’t afford the cost for college.

I believe that college should be free. Why? Because everyone wants to be able to go to college and get the degree they need, for whatever it may be. There are three types of people in America: rich, poor, and then you have the people in between them. For the poor people around America their goal might be to go to college. For the people in the middle, they might have very little money saved up for college so instead of going to college right after high school they have to work for the money or find a way to come up with some money and it might take them maybe 2-3 years to come up with the rest of the money they need for college. Then you have the rich people that can pay for anything and everything most of the time. They are the ones that have the money to pay for college, half of the time.

My whole idea of having free college is so everyone can have a chance to go and work toward whatever it may be. Everyone should have the chance to go to college.

Thank you for your time and have a good rest of your day.

Billie Rodemaker, Charles City

Thank you to Hy-Vee and its services

Today, as my husband is an army veteran, we attended the free breakfast at Hy-Vee. We just want to thank Hy-Vee so much for the wonderful food, the happy, polite workers, and the expense Hy-Vee went to. Hy-Vee: a wonderful place to shop!

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Rezentes, Floyd
