LETTER: Gov’t failing to help legal residents

By Wes Koebrick, Charles City

Another general election is right around the corner, and I hope people use good judgment in their votes this year.

I imagine our government taking in all of these refugees and the people streaming across our border from Mexico is OK with a lot of voters. The big share of these people get to our country and immediately get on the dole so our government will support them. Maybe a few of them will turn out to be hard-working people after they get settled into our way of life, but it’s my thought if they want to change our way of living they should have stayed where they came from.

I have a wife in a nursing home that has already cost me a hundred and sixty thousand dollars after her long-term care insurance ran out. I have been told that our government cannot afford to help pay her expenses and will not help until my money runs out.

lt seems to me that if they can afford to support all of these people that are here that are not even legal residents they could also help pay expenses for seniors who have paid taxes for 50 or 60 years. Keep this in mind when you enter that voting booth.
