Preseason wrestling rankings released
Area athletes posted in top 10 wrestlers in early season standings
With the wrestling season about to get underway, some of the best wrestlers in the state of Iowa are featured in Classes 1A, 2A and 3A.
Here’s a look at where the top ranked wrestlers from Charles City, Nashua-Plainfi eld, North Butler and RRMR are listed.
CLASS 3A
Charles City — At 138-pounds, Austin Staudt is the highest ranked NEIC wrestler in his class at the No. 7 spot. For the Comets, Max Forsyth is ranked No. 5 in the 145-pound class. In the 195-pound class, Nick Jacobs is ranked No. 3, the highest of any Comet in the rankings.
Finally, at No. 8 in the 220-pound class, is AJ Malloy. He completes the foursome of Comets ranked in the top 10 in Class 3A.
CLASS 1A
Nashua-Plainfield — Jason Fisher comes in as the only ranked Husky this preseason.
He’s listed at No. 6 in the 195-pound weight class.
North Butler — The highest ranked area wrestler comes form North Butler. Dalton Nelson takes the No. 3 spot in the 138-pound weight class, the only Bearcat to be ranked.
RRMR — Junior Will Portis claims the No. 5 spot in the 113-pound weight class at the only Warrior wrestler listed in the top 10 this season.
The Comets, Huskies and Bearcats all get their seasons started tonight. Charles City is at New Hampton at 5 p.m.; Nashua-Plainfield hosts at 5:30 p.m.; North Butler takes a trip down to Clarksville at 6 p.m.
