Huskies earn first win of the season

Huskies earn first win of the season

N-P hopes to keep confidence rolling into break

It wasn’t the prettiest way to do it, but the Huskies claimed their first win of the season Saturday night, a 44-31 win against Clarksville.

Although Nashua-Plainfield (1-6, 0-4 TOIC) didn’t score at all in the first quarter, it was still able to hold on to the win by attacking Clarksville inside throughout the second half.

Head coach Justin Eiffler admitted it wasn’t the prettiest game to win, but the Huskies were able to let a out a long sigh of relief after getting the first win. “A win’s a win,” Eiffler said. “It didn’t look good. We got the looks we wanted, we just couldn’t get the shots to fall.”

Senior Brody Schmidt claimed 15 rebounds on Friday night and was accompanied by Dayton Hansen’s 14 points in the win.

Eiffler said coming into the weekend, he was confident his team could win both games.

An overtime loss Friday night to Central Springs teased that idea for an extra period.

Inability to attack the inside like the Huskies did the following night against Clarksville was the diagnosis of the loss.

“We got the ball inside all game long, but then we just failed to do so later on,” Eiffler said. “We wanted to win both these games. We just came up short.”

Before Saturday’s win, the Huskies were 0-6 on the season. Eiffler said it was a opportunistic time to get down and continue struggling, but that’s not what he saw.

“The thing is, we’re not giving up. We started 0-6, but there’s no quit here,” Eiffler said. “If we continue to do the little things in games, we’re going to be a tough team to beat.”

The Huskies get a brief break until Dec. 15 when the they travel to Saint Ansgar.

Then, the Huskies will play host to Osage on Dec. 18.

Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
