WRESTLING: Empty weight classes cost Comets
Clear Lake 38, CC 37 | Denver 39, CC 38
Staff Report
DENVER — Open weights in the 106- and 113-pound brackets continue to put the Charles City wrestling team in a 12-point hole against the opposition.
That’s what makes a pair of one-point losses against Clear Lake and Denver during a double dual at Denver that much more frustrating.
“We’re winning matches, and a lot of our guys are coming along this season,” Charles City coach Kevin Wedeking said after the Comets fell to Clear Lake (38-37) and Denver (39-38) in order Tuesday evening. “But we can’t fill those weights.
“Losing two like that makes it a tough ride home.” Individually, the Comets had five wrestlers come home with two wins: Nate Lasher (126-pounds), Max Forsyth (145), Brandon Childs (160), Alex Koehler (182) and Aj Maloy (220).
