Comet bowlers roll over Oelwein

Brady Girkin rolled a high game of 256 and two-game series of 445, leadoff man Hunter Brockney cleared 200 twice (204, 210), and Madison Ross paced the Charles City girls with a two-game series of 340 as the Comets boys and girls teams rolled over Oelwein in high school bowling action Friday night at Viper Lanes in Waterloo.

With a five-man tabulated series score of 1,993 combined with a Baker Rotation score of 997, the Comet boys bested Oelwein 2,990-2,776.

The girls, which got a high game out of Baili Girkin (203), won their match 2,567-2,221.

“Oelwein came out smoking,” Charles City bowling coach Doug Bohlen said of the Huskies boys team, which posted a marked-down average score of 193 in the first game.

Clutch spare shooting enabled the Comets to pull away in the second game.

Charles City girls had three Baker games in the 200s to help put the match away.

“(They) are coming together as a team,” Bohlen said of the girls.

Charles City’s junior varsity squads were also victorious, with the boys defeating Oelwein 2,038-1,916, and the girls winning 1,903-1,447.

Aaron Wright rolled a high-game of 210 for the Comet boys JV team, and Falyn Knecht’s 151 first-game score was the biggest pinfall for the Comet girls JV team.

The Comet boys and girls will host Tripoli Friday at Comet Bowl.
