Making waves at YMCA State Swim Meet

Nicholas Litterer earns 4th, 5th and 9th-place finishes for CC YMCA

MARSHALLTOWN — According to one of his Charles City YMCA Swim Club teammates, Nicholas Litterer was still peaking while preparing for the YMCA State Swim Meet, held March 5-6 at the Marshalltown Y.

Too bad the meet wasn’t held a week later.

The Charles City freshman placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (54.15), fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:01.06) and ninth in the 50 freestyle (24.88).

Litterer also teamed up with Stephen Bachman, Isaak Jensen and Ezra Wilson to take 12th place in the 200 medley and 200 free relays in the ages 15-21 division.

Jensen placed 16th in the 100 back (1:17.41), 17th in the 200 back (2:47.39) and 29th in the 100 breast (1:32.72).

Wilson placed 23rd in the 100 free (59.69).

Bachman placed 27th in the 100 breast (1:29.23).

Other boy state qualifiers for the CC YMCA included Isaac Fortunato, who placed ninth in the 200 breast (2:38.62) and 10th in the 100 breast (1:13.33); and Ian Collins, who placed ninth in the 50 back (35.04) and 16th in the 50 free (30.47).

CC YMCA girl qualifiers included Marley Hagarty, who placed seventh in the 100 individual medley (1:11.83), ninth in the 50 back (34.28) and 10th in the 100 free (1:03.66) in the ages 11-12 division.

Hagarty teamed up with Kiki Connell, Kelsey Kane and Morgan Haus to place 19th in the 200 free.

As individuals, Connell placed 13th in the 100 breast (1:23.30) and 21st in the 100 back (1:18.76); and Haus placed 39th in the 200 free (2:34.19).

The 200 medley relay team of Ellen Wandro, Katlyn Marty, Nia Litterer and Makayla Nierling placed 14th in the ages 15-21 division. Nierling, Litterer, Wandro and Madelyn Tjaden placed 14th in the 200 free relay.

As individuals, Litterer placed 19th in the 100 butterfly (1:12.02); and Nierling placed 21st in both the 100 free (1:02.74) and 100 breast (1:26.45), and 22nd in the 50 free (28.27).
