NASHUA — Maybe you can improve on perfection.

For instance, Thursday’s coed golf meet hosted by Nashua-Plainfield at the Nashua Town and Country Club seemed to be graced by perfect weather.

“But I hear tomorrow is going to be even better,” N-P boys and girls coach Jeff Trost said of the Huskies subsequent home meet against New Hampton.

“It’s going to be warmer and with less wind,” Trost said. “But this is by far the best day we’ve had this year.”

It provoked the best performance thus far this season from Husky senior Zach Bond. Against teams from West Fork and Northwood-Kensett, and a two-man squad from Clarksville, Bond earned medalist honors after carding a 39 and defeating West Fork’s Gunnar Myers in a playoff for the top spot.

Overall, West Fork recorded the best team score (173) ahead of the Huskies (187) and N-K (195).

The Huskies also got a lift from senior Devin Koob, who with West Fork’s Logan Plagge, shot the third-best score of the day (42).

“It’s nice to play when it’s not windy and cold for a change,” said Koob, who like teammate Bond, with continue his golf career at NIACC. “I still could have shot a little better.”

On the girls side, Nashua-Plainfield came on top amid a full four-team field with an overall score of 209. The team was led by Kelsey Poppe and Megan Cerwinske, who tied for third individually with scores of 51.

Bridget Ross of runner-up Clarksville (224) defeated Ericka Heideman of third-place Northwood-Kensett (227) in a playoff after they were tied at 49 through nine holes.

“We’re making a lot of progress,” Trost said of his teams. “We need to keep on working on getting better.”
