OSAGE — The Charles City boys and girls golf teams traveled to Sunny Brae Golf Course for a road matchup against Osage on Tuesday afternoon.

Despite both Comet teams putting forth strong performance, they were unable to outplay the Green Devils on their home turf.

On the boys side, Osage won, 162-186, as the Green Devils carded the two top scores complements of sophomore Drew Olson (38) and junior Ben Grimm (39). Charles City sophomore Theo Arndt took third, posting a respectable 41 on his first trip to Sunny Brae.

Other scores for the Charles City boys varsity squad included junior Drew Mitchell and sophomore Luke DeLap, both at 47; sophomore Kaleb Ross (51), and freshmen Jackson Molstead and Carter Johanningmeier, who each scored 58.

With Tuesday’s performance, the Comet boys’ 9-hole average moves to 184.25.

“We always want to try and come out and win, but Osage took advantage of their home course,” remarked David Williams, head coach of the Charles City boys golf team. “Theo (Arndt) had a nice round, though having never played here before.”

The Charles City girls golf team competed not only against Osage, but New Hampton as well. Osage came out on top, finishing with a score of 196, with Charles City finishing second (204) followed New Hampton (211).

The medalist for the girls was Osage senior Courtney Tusler, who carded a 42, while sophomore Emma Williams of Charles City was runner-up with a score of 47.

Other scores for Charles City included juniors Mija Cotton and Gen Wandro, who each scored a 51; senior Jamie Sindlinger, who finished with a 55; junior Abby Milligan (57) and senior Taylor Hoffman (60)

The Comet girls’ continued to improve their 9-hole average, which is now down to 210.4, almost two strokes lower than when they started the day.

“I thought it was a good meet for us,” CC girls head coach Eric Johanningmeier said. “We continued to up our team score, and that’s what matters right now.”

Both Comet teams are back in action Friday. The boys play at home (Cedar Ridge GC), against Waukon, while the girls travel to Waverly. Both meets begin at 4 p.m.
