School AD coached Comets since 1993

Todd Forsyth has been coaching basketball since he was 20 years old.
“It’s been 32 years … 24 at this school,” said Forsyth, who took over the Comets’ boys program in 1993. “I’ve coached other sports, but basketball has always been the main one.”
Forsyth has decided to step down as Charles City’s boys basketball coach.
“It was something I’ve been thinking about doing for the last couple of weeks,” Forsyth said. “I’ve discussed it with my family and my assistant coaches. It was a process coming to make this decision.”
Earlier this week, Forsyth told Charles City’s returning players that he wasn’t coming back as their coach next school season.
“But I’ll still hold open gym for them for the remainder of the (school) season, and keep working on stuff,” Forsyth said.
The former high school coach of Iowa Basketball Hall of Famer Greg Brunner, Forsyth leaves a team of talented underclassmen, including guard Jackson Molstead, who was an all-Northeast Iowa Conference First-Team selection as a freshman.
“I didn’t want to leave with the program in shambles,” said Forsyth, whose young team finished with a 8-13 record last season. “There’s a lot of talent on this team, and it’s going to be a great opportunity for whoever is going to be the new coach.”
Forsyth will remain Charles City’s athletic director, and will help with the selection process.
“We’ve just put the notice out,” he said.
