If you’re going to give up 11 hits, you’d better scatter them.

That’s what Charles City starting pitcher Jordan Kapping did while earning a complete-game, 7-2 victory over hosting Turkey Valley on Wednesday.

Only one of the two runs scored off Kapper was earned as he struck out five and walked four in seven innings.

“He got into a couple of jams, but he threw strikes when he needed to,” Charles City coach Tyler Downing said of Kapping. “And our defense backed him up with some nice plays.”

Comet leadoff man Tyler Brockney was 2-for-3 with two runs scored an a RBI. Nate Lasher was 2-for-3 with a RBI and run scored for Charles City,

Evan Drilling was 4-for-4 with a RBI for Turkey Valley.

The Comets improved to 3-3 when including Tuesday’s 8-7 win over Crestwood in the second game of a doubleheader halted after four and a half innings due to a thick fog.

“We found out for sure this morning,” said Downing, as there was some confusion about the pending outcome when the game was called. “It’s an official win for us.”
