Staff Report

NASHUA — For budding trapshooters, recording their first “50” as in hitting all clays in a 50-target round is a meaningful milestone.

In the inaugural “Shoot for a Cure” trapshooting tournament held Sunday at Nashua Fish and Game Club, organizers also achieved a 50 score as in number of participants who helped raise more than $3,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Medals were awarded to the top three scores in four divisions.

Bailey Bortz won Women’s 18-and-Under ahead of runner-up Rebecca Tierney and third-place finisher Izzy Worrall.

Top placers in Women’s 18-and-Over were Diane Ruth (1st), Alex Schwickerath (2nd) and Julia Hanson (3rd).

Top placers in Men’s 18-and-Under were Aaron Wright (1st), Jacob Greenzweig (2nd) and Nick Bucknell (3rd).

Top placers in Men’s 18-and-Over were Larry Bortz (1st), Nathan Anderson (2nd) and Jeff Harris (3rd).

Organizers were grateful for all those who helped make the event possible, including the Nashua Gun Club who offered the site and Kevin, Wanda and Rebecca Tierney, who lives with Type 1 diabetes, for the hours they put in.
