TRIPOLI — Regardless of whose name is actually on the title, Kaleb Ross owns Panther Lanes.

The Charles City junior left-handed bowler became the first Comet to break the 500 two-game series mark when he rolled a 504 (235, 269) to help his team defeat the hosting Tripoli Panthers on Friday at the aforementioned establishment.

In the second game, Koss flirted with perfection with eight straight strikes before leaving a solid 7-pin in the ninth frame.

In a meet against Denver at the same house, Ross rolled a 492 two-game series. When combining the two series, Ross’s average is just under 250.

“He probably would love to bowl here every meet,” Charles City coach Doug Bohlen said.

And maybe so for some of his teammates.

In addition to Ross, Charles City got a 445 series which included a 248 first game from leadoff man Hunter Brockney. Noah Reams shot a 425, and anchorman Drew Mitchell had a 402.

Jacob Greenzweig, who bowled a 217 first game, was 15 pins shy of giving the Comets a fifth 400 series.

Nearly averaging 200 in the Baker rotation games, the Comets compiled a 3,157 score, well ahead of Tripoli’s 2,869 despite a 452 series from Panther anchorman Cody Funk.

“It’s not the best we’ve ever bowled, but that might be in our top three,” said Bohlen, whose team bounced back from a low-scoring performance at Waverly Bowl Inn the Friday before.

Charles City girls team also improved to 5-1 for the season while rolling over Tripoli 2,502 to 1,893.

Macy Ross led the Comets with a 361 series that included a 205 game. Falyn Knecht also bowled a 205 for Charles City on way to a 355 series.

“The girls were in the pocket almost as much as the boys, but they weren’t getting the strikes,” Bohlen said. “Macy’s first game was only in the 150s (156), but it could have easily been in the 200s.”
