CHARLES CITY — The Northeast Iowa District Elks Hoop Shoot was held on Sunday, Jan. 21 at the Charles City’s Comet Gym. Participants representing Charles City, Dubuque, Iowa Falls, and Waterloo Elks Lodges competed for a chance to advance to the Iowa Elks Association State Hoop Shoot, Feb. 17 in Grinnell.

Those placing first in their division at districts advance to state.

Reed Peters of Charles City is one of those advancing as he won the boys 12-13 division after making 22 of 25 free throws. The Michael W. Backer Award was presented to Peters for being the best shooter overall in the District Hoop Shoot. The award is in memory of long-time District Hoop Shoot Director Michael Backer.
