ROCKFORD — Practice? We’re talking about Practice?

The famous … or infamous … Allen Iverson rant about the supposed importance or lack thereof of practice has stood the 16-years-and-counting test of time.

But practice was an important factor in Rockford senior Marissa Norby’s decision to continue her softball career at Northern Iowa Area Community College.

“I went to see one of their practices, and I just loved the setting and atmosphere,” said Norby, who signed her letter of intent last Wednesday to play for the Trojans.

During her junior season, Norby led the Warriors with four home runs, 39 runs batted in and a slugging percentage of .699.

She also hit .419.

Normally a middle infielder, Norby was Rockford’s No. 1 starting pitcher her freshman and sophomore seasons. During her sophomore season, she struck out 85 and walked 43 with an earned run average of 3.38 in 153 1/3 innings pitched.

Norby didn’t pitch last year for the Warriors, which finished with a 15-14 record.

“We should be good this year,” Norby said of her forthcoming senior season. “We have a lot of younger kids coming up, but they can play.”
