In the wake of taking home a pair of State Bowling Tournament runner-up trophies, members from the Charles City boys and girls bowling teams have been honored with all-district and all-state team selections by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association and the Iowa High School Bowling Coaches Association.

Named to the Class 1A All-State first teams were seniors Hunter Brockney and Kaleb Ross on the boys side, and sisters Macy and Madison Ross on the girls side.

Kaleb Ross and Brockney led the Comet boys with season averages of 207 and 206, respectively.

Macy Ross, who helped the Comet girls cap an undefeated regular season by school-record scores of 299 (game) and 553 (two-game series — second best in the state), averaged nearly 215 her senior season.

Madison Ross, a junior, averaged 187.

Also making the Class 1A All-State second team for the Charles City girls was senior Falyn Knecht, who was hampered by a thumb injury but still managed to average nearly 180 this past season.

Earlier, the aforementioned Comets were named to the IGCA and IHSBCA’s All-Central District bowling teams.

Brockney and Kaleb Ross were both first-teamers, and sophomore Cade Schmidt — who momentarily owned the school’s all-time best two-game series (526) before Macy Ross broke it (still best among CC boys) — was named to the second team.

Macy and Madison Ross, and Knecht were all-district first-teamers with senior left-handed teammate Baili Girkin, who placed third among individual girls at the state tournament.

Charles City senior Katie Sickman was named to the girls all-district second team.

Charles City head coach Doug Bohlen was named Central District Girls Coach of the Year.
