Press Staff Report

For the last time Nick Litterer won a YMCA State Swim Meet first-place medal, you would have to go back in time.

Way back … to when he was 11-years-old when he won an individual medley.

Looking forward as well as backwards during this past weekend’s YMCA Swim Meet held at the Marshalltown YMCA pool, Litterer brought home two gold medals while representing the Charles City YMCA Swim Team.

Going in at the No. 1 seed in the Boys 15-21 100 backstroke, Litterer won the event with a time of 54.26 seconds.

The Charles City junior has swam faster.

As a member of the Mason City High School swim team, Litterer swam a personal-best time of 53.62 at the Iowa High School State Meet, which scored “back points” for the Mohawks in team standings. Litterer currently is ranked second all-time among Mohawk 100 backstrokers as his PR time is .72 behind the all-time best.

Litterer also won the Boys 15-21 200 freestyle with a time of 1:48.36, and placed second in the Boys 15-21 200 backstroke.

Litterer didn’t go to Marshalltown alone as the Charles City YMCA Team fielded 11 state qualifiers.

Litterer teamed up with Stephen Bachman, Ryan Kvernevig and fellow cross country state qualifier Mason Deeter to place sixth in the Boys 15-21 200 freestyle relay (1:45.95) and eighth in the Boys 15-21 200 medley relay (2:07.58).

Bachman, another Charles City student who swims for Mason City, also qualified for the maximum five events and took 12th in the Boys 15-21 50 freestyle (25.73), and 17th in the Boys 15-21 100 freestyle (58.03).

Also representing Charles City was Trent Rodruck, who placed 15th in the Boys 9-10 50 backstroke.

On the girls side for Charles City, Litterer’s sister — Nia Litterer — was a five-event qualifier. In the Girls 12-21 100 butterfly, she placed 14th (1:06.05); and in the Girls 15-21 100 freestyle, she placed 21st (1:01.11).

In the Girls 15-21 200 freestyle relay, Kaitlyn Marty, Kelsey Kane, Morgan Haus and Litterer placed 15th (1:59.12).

Marty, Litterer, Kane and Emma Roney placed 17th in the Girls 15-21 200 medley relay with a time of 2:15.45.

Haus placed 21st in the Girls 13-14 200 freestyle with a time of 2:27.82.

AnneMarie Hansen placed 24th in the Girls 11-12 50 backstroke with a time of 35.40 while representing the Charles City YMCA.
