CHARLES CITY — You can hustle on the road, or you can hustle at home.

Or you can do both.

The Charles City 8-Ball Pool League is played on Thursday nights with teams hosting matches and traveling to matches at various establishments throughout the region.

Hot Shots Billiards, which sponsors several of the league’s teams, serves as “central command” for the league as it is where results from matches from other sites are dropped off to eventually be tabulated for updated standings.

But for local poolplayers who would rather not travel out to Rockford on a semi-regular basis, there is an In-House — or “In-Town” —  Tuesday Night League that plays at one location — Hot Shots.

Last Tuesday (March 20), the In-Town league held its awards banquet — the first at Hot Shots’ new location at 700 Riverside Dr.

The team “Hot Shots”, consisting of Hot Shots’ owner Joe Hull as well as Kyloe Knapp, Justin Stewart, Chris Freiberg and Ryan Miller, won the seven-team league ahead of runner-up Hot Shots, Too, It’s 805 (3rd), Chalk is Cheap (4th), Hot Shots 3 (5th), Team Misfits (6th) and Voodoo Bitches (7th).

Les Graeser received the league’s “Top Player”.

In the category of “Most Earned Run Outs”, Jason Aikey and Kaleb Nauman tied for most in the league.

In addition to serving the first hamburgers from its recently approved kitchen, there was a tournament as part of the awards event.

In the end Bob Graham emerged as champion after defeating Nauman in the championship round.
