HAMPTON — Is there a doctor in the house, or at least someone with surgical scissors?

During Saturday’s North Central Tennis Conference Tournament, Charles City junior Amy Boggess needed someone to cut the adhesive tape wrapped around her blistered foot to relieve some of the painful pressure.

That enabled Boggess to gut out a 40-game bracket round-robin with No. 1 doubles partner Jodie Sindlinger.

Boggess was back in action Monday with a little less pain to deal with and defeated Hampton-Dumont’s No. 2 singles player Jadin Beyer, 8-3, in pro-set scoring during a meet hosted by the Bulldogs.

Boggess also got another win with Sindlinger in No. 1 doubles, but they were defeated by Tristen Rew and Erin Plagge, 9-8 (7-1 tiebreaker).

Sindlinger also lost a tiebreaker to Rew in No. 1 singles (9-8, 7-4), but the Comets got singles wins from No. 3 Taylor Walters, who defeated Plagge, 8-2; and No. 4 Kayla Kellogg, who defeated Angela Koath, 8-0; and a No. 2 doubles win from Walters and Mackenzie Wilson, who defeated Beyer and Koath, 8-2.

With an incomplete team, the Bulldogs had to forfeit the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches, and the No. 3 doubles matches, resulting in a 7-2 Comet overall victory.

Charles City is now 3-4 for the season in dual meets. It will host Clear Lake today at 4 p.m. at Sportsmen’s Park.
