Home ‘Baking’ leads to first Comet boys bowling loss; Comet girls still undefeated

Press Staff Report

TRIPOLI — Sometimes the host team benefits from “home cooking”.

While taking on Charles City at its home house, Panther Lanes, the Tripoli boys bowling team used some “home baking” to saddle the Comet boys team with its first loss of the season.

The Comets boasted the top two series scores in the individual round with juniors Kaleb Ross and Dillon Ross both rolling 407s — Panther seniors Caeden Funk and Jake Christensen bowled 404 and 398 two-game series, respectively, to lead Tripoli.

With Landon Luft (370), Koyer Kellogg (365) and Cael Bohlen (346) rounding out the Comet scores, Charles City was leading after the individual round. But the Panthers turned up the heat in the subsequent Baker Rotation round, out-rolling the Comets 1,013 to 968 which helped them win with an overall score 2,917 to 2,897.

Though the Comet boys fell to 6-1, the Comet girls remained undefeated after defeating the Panthers 2,558 to 2,289.

Senior Heather Viers led the way with a 397 two-game series with Sarah Mitchell (376), Claire Girkin (376), Brianna Ross (333) and Imagin McHenry (292) rounding out the scores for Charles City.

Raelyn Schwarze (365) and McKenna Schaufenbuel (358) were the top rollers for the Panthers.

Charles City boys and girls will be back in action on Friday when they host Forest City at Comet Bowl.
