Comet boys bowling team improves to 5-0 with road win over Vikings

DECORAH — The Charles City boys bowling team — undefeated in 2021 — extended its perfect record into the New Year with a 2,953 to 2,736 victory over Decorah last Friday at the Vikings’ home “house” Skyline Lanes.

Dillon Ross rolled a career-high two-game series of 499 to lead the Comets. Kaleb Cotton (435), Landon Luft (390), Keaton Ross (386) and Chris Tull (311) rounded out the scores for Charles City (5-0).

Grady Brauer’s two-game series of 385 led the Vikings.

During the simultaneous girls dual, Charles City boasted the top three two-game series rolled by Ragan Hintgen (378), Claire Girkin (358) and Sofia Nelson (354).

But starting with Sydney Hageman’s 354, Decorah had the next five best two-game series scores while edging the Comets by 40 pins — 2,369 to 2,329.

Aliya Elsbury’s 249 and Isabell Crawford’s 242 rounded out the individual scoring for the Comet girls (4-1), who dropped their first dual of the season while Decorah improved to 5-1.
