Charles City native Jon Herbrechtsmeyer to be inducted into Minnesota Girls Basketball HOF

Charles City native Jon Herbrechtsmeyer will be part of the Minnesota Girls Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame 2022 induction class to be formally honored Oct. 28 at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul.

In 19 seasons of coaching the women’s program at Bethel University, Herbrechtsmeyer has led the Royals to nearly 300 wins. His teams have made NCAA Division III Tournament appearances in 2015 and 2020.

After coaching the Royals to a 26-2 record in 2019-2020 which included  Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships, Herbrechtsmeyer was named MIAC Coach of the Year.

During Herbrechtsmeyer’s current tenure, the Royals have qualified for 11 MAIC Tournament appearances, including nine in the last 10 completed seasons.

After playing for Gustavus Adolphus College in 1988-1989, Herbrechtsmeyer served as an assistant coach for the GAC women’s team before later becoming the University of Sioux Falls women’s head coach from 1994 through 1997, where he was named the South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference Coach of the Year his final season there.

Herbrechtsmeyer went on to coach the women’s program at Cornell College from 1997 through 2002 where he helped the Rams set school records in season wins (18) and conference wins (15) and qualify for the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament for the first time in school history after the team went 4-106 in the five seasons prior to Herbrechtsmeyer’s arrival.

While heading the North Tartan AAU girls basketball program, Herbrechtsmeyer coached a 14U team to a national title in 2012.
